Everyone’s getting pumped up for Euros, it all starts on Friday June 8th, in Warsaw. The hosts Poland will take on Greece in the opening match of the tournament, hoping to impress their home crowd, as they have won 10 of the last 15 meetings between the two sides.

Let’s take a look at the teams. Poland seems to be a well balanced team. They’ve shown good form in their recent friendlies, and who can overlook the Borussia Dortmund trio of Lewandowski, Blacykowski, and Pisczek. These three are coming off of a Bundesliga championship on a high note, and are looking to start this tournament with a bang. If they are in form, which they should be, they can definitely cause problems for the Greeks. Szczesny will have to be better in goal than he was for Arsenal this past season, but he has shown in the past that he can be solid.

Greece didn’t lose any qualifying games (7 wins, 3 draws), but they lack a creative presence on the field. They usually try to sure up their defence to keep games close, waiting for potential counter-attack opportunities, rather than attack the opposition directly. They are considered underdogs in this game for a reason…they are away from home, and don’t score goals.
